About Us

We are situated in the beautiful hamlet of Hailstone Moor, in the rural market town of Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England.

I have always owned ponies and horses since childhood amounting to over 30 years experience but I had never seen true miniature horses until 2003. Then we had to have some!

Our quest began to find the best horses with the best bloodlines for the start of our breeding programme.

After searching the UK and Europe and not finding the right type of horse, we then knew we would have to import direct from the USA. At that time this was a huge step as there were very few imported horses in the UK and nobody willing to give advice on how to do it!

First we had to find the horses...

Months were spent researching farms, bloodlines and results from the AMHA. We studied every detail - what we liked, what we didn't like, learning a lot during the process. Once we found the horses, we set about getting them over. Fortunately, it wasn't so difficult and our foundation horses started to arrive.

We have built up a very select herd of pure bred American registered horses most being dual registered AMHA/AMHR. Our foundation herd combine the most desirable names in the history of the American studbook. These include such greats as Orion Light Vant Huttenest, L&D Scout, Rowdy, Lazy Ns Boogerman, Sids Rebel, Boones Little Andy, Egyptian King, to name but a few.

We are extremely proud of the horses we have and our choice has been validated by the considerable  success we have enjoyed from the start. In our first season taking Top Awards, most notable : -

2004 HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW CHAMPION (see results page) with Jezebelles Famous Song  and

2004 AMHA WORLDS TOP FIVE with aAprina In Ovations Mashena.

Our aim is to breed quality horses that will stand out in the ring and will  later make a valuable contribution to the future of the breed. They should possess such traits as refinement, beauty, movement and quality. The only way to make this happen is to breed only the best with the best. We believe this is key in order to maintain our very high standard and to achieve our goal.

We also realise the importance of being a responsible breeder and we follow a very well thought out breeding plan which means our mares are equal to our stallions. We breed only 100% American horses. We have also adopted a strict policy to castrate nearly all of our colts regardless of quality. We do this for two reasons:-

i)We hope this will improve the standard of geldings in the show ring and help make this a competitive area.

ii) We do not want to compromise our prefix and reputation by allowing  colts carrying the Hailstone name to be used in indescriminate breeding programmes.

Stephen set up the first Gelding Incentive Scheme in the UK by donating £1,000 cash to be given out as prize money in the gelding classes.

By having such standards you can guarantee that the Hailstone prefix will become synonymous with quality and good breeding.

We would like to congratulate the new owners of Hailstone horses who have enjoyed considerable success with them and more importantly have become friends. Well done all of you and thank you for showing them so well!

We look forward to 2010 when we shall continue to show at the European shows. Keep checking our results pages for updates and pictures.
